Sightseeing through Gran Canary

today as it is Friday, we publish you again an interesting sightseeing highlight: The MUSEO CANARIO (the Canarian Museum) in the capital of the Island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

This scientific and cultural institution was founded in 1879 as a place where archaeological and ethnographical collections and materials are preserved, studied and exhibited. The museum also has a library and archive that specialise in matters relating to the Canary Islands. At the beginning the museum contained only the collections and objects that were donated by Dr. Chil, as well as the other founders and friends of the city, but through archaeological excursions and donations of objects it has been become what you will find today: the biggest centre that is specialized in the archipelago.
The permanent exhibition provide an overview of the way of life of the Canaries, the early inhabitants of Gran Canaria, before the European conquest the Islands of the 15th century, their cave, the exploitation of natural resources, idols and “pintaderas” (clay seals), fabrics, mummification and trephinations are some of the aspects of this culture that are shown to visitors to the museum.

Free Entry only Mondays, otherdays 4€, children under 12 years free
Hours: from Monday until Friday from 10.00 until 20.00hrs, Saturdays & Sundays from 10.00 until 14.00 hours. Closed on festive days and on May 22, December 24 and 31.
